Education & The Hunt For The Minds Of The Masses!

Education is the foundation of all successful societies. the ancient legislator and governor, Moses, who led his people out of feudal oppression, understood the importance of education. The historical record of Moses teaches us that Moses encouraged his people to be educated. He taught them laws, statutes and judgments, health, wellness, nutrition, the science of agriculture, farming, equity in business and economics just to name a few.

Fidel Castro and Vladimir Linen for example, did the same thing, they educated their poor masses after they had led successful revolutions against the rich and powerful, against the ‘Kzars’ in Eastern Europe and against the former president of Cuba, Fulgencio Batista. These freedom fighters sought to educate the poor masses that had been for so long miseducated and dumbed down by their oppressors. There were many others who knew the importance of sound education: Thomas Sankara, Chairman Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Wangari Muta Maathai, Mohandas Gandhi, the list goes on.

To those of us, who are willing to learn and make a change- if you are in school, or planning to go to school, use the education and learn an occupation that can be used to abolish and get rid of the present social systems of today which oppress and exploit the masses for the benefit of a few. The rich and powerful will try to keep these corrupt systems in place, but the power in this case is in the hands of the common people. Martin Luther Kin found out this secret, and used it to cripple the capitalist transportation industry, thereby getting the attention of the corrupt governing officials. Mohandas Gandhi learned the secret and was able to liberate the Indian people from the British (corrupt) empire.

There are many  occupations that can prepare the people for this movement, farmers, naturopaths, herbalists, midwives, nurses, tailors, weavers, artists, journalists, auto mechanics, plumbers, electricians, brick masons, roofers, carpenters, etc. Join us in our classes and we can share on how to use these occupations to bring liberation, relief, awareness, food, shelter and clothing to the oppressed and struggling people.

In order to understand the relevance of the information in this article, let’s look at what is happening to us as a people by way of the educational system under ‘CAPITALISM’.

Education as a Conserving Force

“The formal system of education in the U.S. society (and all societies) is conservative because the avowed function of the schools is to teach new comers the attitudes, values, roles, and specialties, information and training necessary for the maintenance of society. In other words, the special task of the schools is to preserve the culture, not to transform it. Thus schools indoctrinate their pupils in the culturally prescribed ways” (Social Problems by Eitzen & Zinn pg. # 9th edition).

Therefore, if you’re in a culture or society where there are a few rich and many poor, schools teach you to “keep it that way“. This explains why the rich and powerful invested millions of dollars in public schools and colleges. John T. Gotto, a former schoolteacher tells us,

In time a great number of industrial titans came to recognize the enormous profits to be had by cultivating and tending just such a herd via public education, among them Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller“. (John T. Gatto pf. xx)

Between 1896 and 1920, a small group of industrialists and financiers, together, with their private charitable foundations heavily subsidized university chairs, researchers, and school administrators, and had actually spent more money on forced schooling’s early years than did the government. Just two men, Carnegie and Rockefeller, were themselves spending more as late as 1915” (John T. Gatto pg.8).

Under capitalism schools are geared to work on the rich and powerful behalf, not the masses. John T. Gotto in his book “Weapons of Mass Instruction” continues to shed light on this issue:

School trains children to be employees and consumers”

“Mandatory education serves children only incidentally; its real purpose is to turn them into servants“. (John T. Gatto pg xxii). “Servants” and “consumers” are to serve the rich and keep them rich.

Briefly, there is another reason why the rich encourage school and “higher education,” they are creating a mass surplus of “educated” human resources (who are unemployed), to choose from. This stratagem will help freeze wages and/or drive them down. Karl Kautsky wrote about it over one hundred years ago:

The number of educated people has grown to such an extent that it more than suffices for the wants of the capitalist and the capitalist state. The labor market of educated labor is today as overstocked as the market of manual labor. It is no longer the manual workers alone who have their reserve army of unemployed and are afflicted with lack of work; the educated workers also have their reserve army of idle, and among them also lack of work has taken up it’s permanent quarters. The seekers for public office find that avenue of employment crowded. Those who seek openings elsewhere experience the extremes of idleness and excessive work just as do the manual workers, and the like them are victims of wage slavery” (Class Struggle by K. Kautsky, pg. 40)
